Queens Of The Stone Age lynchpin Josh Homme has produced a spooky remix of a Grinderman song.

Spin reports that Homme bumped into Grinderman in an LA diner last year and they agreed upon a remix, facilitated by Grinderman producer Nick Launay.

Homme had a crack at the opening track to last year's second Grinderman album ' 'Mickey Mouse And The Goodbye Man'.

The remix is certainly odd, stripping back everything to a creepy click and multiple Nick Cave vocals before lurching into a skeletal version of the original.

Whitney Houston banned from Prince gigs

"The one I played in Moscow is like the most fantastic Swiss chocolate -- a dark, beautiful tone that expresses things beautifully.

"Mine, frankly, is similar, but a bit darker in tone. But I couldn't tell you one was better than the other. They're both Rolls-Royces -- and your Rolls might be a Silver Shadow or a Corniche, but they're both wonderful cars."

Mr. Zukerman says the instrument he played in Moscow is in "an amazingly good state of preservation."

Certainly, its provenance is top drawer. It had once been owned by Belgian composer and violinist Henri Vieuxtemps.

For Mr. Viktorov, the instrument's new owner, the Zukerman concerts were special.

"The violin is an entity that retains energy, and it remembers the person who once held it," he told Bloomberg News.

Mr. Zukerman, perhaps less mystical, prefers to think of those who will hold Mr. Viktorov's prized acquisition, which had not been played in public in 70 years.

"At the prices top violins are now getting, they're simply beyond the reach of most musicians, and rich collectors and foundations are now buying them and lending them to the finer younger players -- and this is wonderful, because no great violin should be put behind glass. They need and want to be played.

"I hope this instrument is played often."

Mr. Zukerman won't venture an opinion on whether the violin is worth the $3.9 million Mr. Viktorov paid. Certainly, the prices are heading skyward, he said. A famous Stradivari violin, the "Lady Blunt," created a sensation when it was sold by Sotheby's for $200,000 back in 1971. The just-sold Guarneri went for nearly 20 times that sum.

"Paying that kind of money certainly guarantees that every effort will be made to preserve them, and that's crucial. Apart from that, the market decides and I'm not here to second-guess."

Mr. Zukerman said Mr. Viktorov, who is a fine amateur violinist and sponsors the Paganini Moscow International Violin Competition, is one of a number of newly rich Russians who are trying to bring new life to the country's rich artistic heritage that lost so much ground in the tumult following the dissolution of the Soviet Union in 1991.

"The country had an unrivalled artistic life -- in music alone, think of the composers: Rachmaninoff, Stravinsky, Rimsky-Korsakov.

"And Viktorov and others want to renew the old standard, and they're working hard to make things better."

Mr. Zukerman will play the Bruch Violin Concerto No. 1 on Wednesday and Thursday nights with the National Arts Centre Orchestra under visiting conductor Douglas Boyd. The orchestra will also offer Haydn's Symphony No. 67, plus Pelleas and Melisande and the Symphony No. 7, both by Sibelius.

Mr. Zukerman is keen to play the Bruch with his own orchestra.

"I've played it since my teens, and it's one of the peak works of the Romantic German repertoire. It has a very full sound, lies well on the instrument, and it will be fun -- especially with my own orchestra."

"For a band to be doing that for as long as they've been doing it and still kicking every young band up the ass is f*****g unbelievable. They are one of my favourite bands I've ever seen since I was a kid. I'm the biggest AC/DC fan in the country."

Ronnie Wood was named Music Radio Personality of the Year at the Sony Radio Academy Awards last night (09.05.11).

The Rolling Stones guitarist was commended at the industry prize-giving ceremony after just a year of hosting his own show on station Absolute Radio.

The judging panel called the star: "An amazing character with a really innovative programme.

"Ronnie has lived the life of a thousand men and you feel like a child sitting at his feet as he unfolds his rarefied story book.'

The musician collected his award shortly after British comedian Frank Skinner - who won the Best Entertainment Programme accolade for his eponymous show ' and said: "This means more to me than it means to Frank, I think, because I'm the newcomer."

The majority of the awards were handed out by star presenters, including Geri Halliwell, Andrea Corr, Rachel Stevens and James Morrison.

James admitted listening to the radio played an integral part in his early career, telling BANG Showbiz: 'When I hear my own songs on the radio now, it reminds me of being a kid and used to listen to the radio, dreaming of wanting to write songs and get on the radio.

"It reminds me of listening to Radio 2 on a Sunday with my dad. I have the radio on a lot at home in the mornings and it's a good rejuvenator for the day."

Other winners at the ceremony ' which was held at the Grosvenor House hotel in London - included broadcasters Jeremy Vine, Zane Lowe and Jenni Murray, while UK Station of the Year was named as commercial station talkSPORT.

Americans spent $6.3 billion on music in 2010. That is down from the 2000 peak of $14.3 billion.

Warner Music has 3,700 employees, down from 5,100 in 2003 and the price Blavatnik paid will no doubt mean more cutbacks.

The 53-year old Russian paid $1.3 billion for the 56% share owned by Edgar Bronfman Jr, Thomas H. Lee and Bain Capital.

In a statement today, Bronfman said, 'We believe this transaction is an exceptional value-maximizing opportunity that serves the best interests of stockholders as well as the best interests of music fans, our recording artists and songwriters, and the wonderful people of this company."

The deal is expected to be finalized in September.

The new Warner Blavatnik lead Warner is already talking about a takeover of EMI later in the year.

Justin Bieber egg thrower arrested

The kid who threw eggs at Justin Bieber during is Sydney concert last week was arrested this morning by Police.

A 17-year male was arrested at his home in Bondi Junction this morning (May 5, 2011) at around 7:30am.

He was taken to Waverly Police station and charged with break and enter, trespass and malicious damage.

The boy arrested broke into Acer Arena on Friday night during the concert by Justin Bieber and pelted eggs at the singer. All missed.

He will now face charges at Parramatta Children's Court in Sydney on June 2.

Jackson Browne pulls dates due to illness

Jackson Browne has been forced to cancel his show in Minneapolis tonight due to illness.

The legendary singer songwriter was to perform at the State Theatre in Minneapolis but the show has now been rescheduled to May 29. It is unknown at this stage if his sold-out concert tomorrow at Peoria, Il will be going ahead.

The 70s music legend has a busy year of touring already in place for 2011 with dates scheduled through to August 21.

Browne's last studio album was 'Time The Conqueror' in 2008. His most recent release is 'Love Is Strange' with David Lindley from May 2010.

Black Sabbath's Tony Iommi autobiography details revealed

Details have come to light about Black Sabbath guitarist Tony Iommi's forthcoming autobiography.

A blurb about Iron Man: My Life In Black Sabbath And Beyond says that it covers his 'rough-and-tumble childhood', divorces, addiction, fame, his bandmates, and 'the ups and downs of his life as an artist'.

The description reads, "Everything associated with hard rock happened to Black Sabbath first: the drugs, the debauchery, the drinking, the dungeons, the pressure, the pain, the conquests, the company men, the contracts, the combustible drummer, the critics, the comebacks, the singers, the Stonehenge set, the music, the money, the madness, the metal."

Bravewords.com write that the book will be released on October 13 in the UK and November 1 in the US.

Although fansite Black-Sabbath.com says the book is not yet finished and the release date may change.
